Rooted in empathy, guided by expertise.
Beacon Bridge was founded on the belief that high-quality behavioral health care should be accessible, dignified, and patient-centered. As a North Carolina-born organization, we understand the communities we serve.
Alexander Yousif
Founder & CEO
From Detroit to Durham — our founder's story.
Alexander Yousif grew up in Detroit, navigating foster care and the loss of a father to substance use. A full scholarship to the University of North Carolina made college possible — and gave him a firsthand look at how opportunity can change a life.
When he later sought therapy, he found a system that was hard to navigate, slow to respond, and rarely built for people with Medicaid or complex lived experience. That gap became the mission.
Beacon Bridge exists to be the bridge he wished he had: a behavioral health home that is easy to start, Medicaid-friendly, and rooted in dignity.
A timeline of persistence & purpose.
From personal struggle to statewide care — the milestones that shaped Beacon Bridge.
Detroit roots
Grew up in Detroit and entered the foster care system, developing early resilience and a deep understanding of what it means to navigate complex systems.
Full ride to UNC
Earned a full scholarship to the University of North Carolina, turning limited opportunity into a platform for impact.
A personal turning point
Sought therapy and experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to find accessible, affirming, and culturally responsive behavioral health care.
In memory of David Nicholson
Lost my dear friend David Nicholson — a Morehead-Cain Scholar at UNC — to suicide, one of countless friends taken too soon by suicide and drug poisoning. Their lives are the reason Beacon Bridge exists: to make behavioral health and substance use care easier to reach before it's too late.
Beacon Bridge founded
Decided to build the bridge they wished they had: a Medicaid-friendly, patient-centered behavioral health practice for all North Carolinians.
First office opens — Durham
Opened the Dunstan Ave. office in Durham, bringing licensed outpatient mental health and substance use services to the community.
CARF accredited
Earned CARF accreditation, affirming that our programs meet rigorous international standards for quality, outcomes, and person-centered care.
Greensboro location opens
Opened the Meadowview Crossing office in Greensboro, expanding outpatient care to the Piedmont Triad.

"I have been a client with Beacon Bridge for a few months. I was homeless and depressed. I felt like no one cared. Since I signed up with this agency I have a roof over my head. I'm not depressed anymore and I feel love and cared for. Thank you Beacon Bridge!"
