Recovery guided by lived experience.
Certified Peer Support Specialists who've walked the same path — offering encouragement, tools, and community as you find your footing.
At Beacon Bridge, we believe in the power of lived experience. Our Peer Support program offers compassionate guidance from individuals who have walked the same path to recovery. With firsthand knowledge of substance use and mental health challenges, our Peer Support Specialists provide encouragement, practical tools, and a sense of community to those seeking a fresh start.
By sharing their journey, PSS team members help bridge the gap between clinical treatment and personal growth, fostering hope and resilience every step of the way. We walk this path together — supporting and empowering one another toward lasting wellness.
With our Peer Support Specialists, you'll receive regular one-on-one sessions in person or by phone, based on your preference. Our goal is to offer the right level of support exactly when you need it, with frequent check-ins to make sure your needs are met.

Frequently asked.
Quick answers to the questions we hear most. Still unsure? Call (833) 496-0445 — we're glad to talk it through.
What does a Peer Support Specialist actually do?
A Certified Peer Support Specialist (PSS) is someone in recovery themselves who walks alongside you — sharing lived experience, helping you set goals, connecting you to resources, and showing up in hard moments. They don't diagnose or prescribe.
How is peer support different from therapy?
A therapist is a licensed clinician trained in evidence-based treatment. A peer support specialist offers guidance from lived experience. Many clients use both — they work well together.
Does Medicaid cover peer support?
Yes. Peer Support Services are covered by NC Medicaid (Standard and Tailored plans) and many commercial insurance plans. We verify benefits before your first session.
Can I request a peer who shares my background?
Yes — tell us what matters to you at intake (recovery journey, culture, language, identity) and we'll do our best to match you with a PSS who fits. If it's not the right match, we'll help you switch.
In person or by phone?
Both. Sessions can happen in person at our Durham or Greensboro offices, in the community, or by phone/video — whichever works best for you.
How do I get started?
Call (833) 496-0445, submit an inquiry, or check your coverage on our Verify Coverage page. We'll take it from there.
