SACOT (ASAM 2.3)

A higher level of outpatient support.

Substance Abuse Comprehensive Outpatient Treatment (SACOT) at ASAM Level 2.3 — more frequent, comprehensive care for individuals who need intensive outpatient support without residential treatment.

What it is

SACOT is designed for people who need more intensive structure than standard outpatient counseling but can still live at home and attend programming during the day or evening. At Beacon Bridge, SACOT is delivered at ASAM Level 2.3 — a more comprehensive level of care than SAIOP, with more frequent sessions and broader clinical support.

SACOT includes a mix of individual counseling, group therapy, psychoeducation, life-skills development, and recovery-focused programming throughout the week. It is a strong fit for individuals transitioning from residential or detox programs, or for those whose substance use needs require more frequent contact than SAIOP provides.

Like all our substance use programs, SACOT begins with an ASAM assessment to confirm the appropriate level of care and build a personalized treatment plan.

FAQ

Frequently asked.

Quick answers to the questions we hear most. Still unsure? Call (833) 496-0445 — we're glad to talk it through.

How is SACOT different from SAIOP?

SACOT (ASAM 2.3) is more intensive than SAIOP (ASAM 2.1). Expect more hours per week, more individual counseling, and broader clinical support — usually 20+ hours across group therapy, individual sessions, and life-skills programming.

How many hours a week is SACOT?

SACOT typically runs 20 or more hours per week, spread across multiple days. Your exact schedule is built with your clinical team based on your treatment plan.

Is SACOT available virtually?

SACOT is delivered in-person at our Durham and Greensboro locations. If you need a virtual option, ask us about Virtual SAIOP as a possible fit.

Can I still work or go to school while in SACOT?

Because SACOT is intensive, most clients need to adjust work or school schedules. We help coordinate documentation for employers, DSS, or courts and plan sessions around what's possible for you.

What's the step-down path after SACOT?

Most clients step down to SAIOP, outpatient therapy, medication management, or peer support once they've completed SACOT. Your clinician plans that transition with you so support stays consistent.

How do I know if SACOT is the right level of care?

We complete an ASAM assessment during intake and place you at 2.1 (SAIOP) or 2.3 (SACOT) based on clinical need — you don't have to figure it out on your own.
